Couple of pre season games abroad with a trip to Union Berlin on July 18 and a week later the team travel to South Africa in a tournament that involves a couple of local teams and Sporting Lisbon.

I have mixed feelings about the money Palace are spending as it should be used on redeveloping the ground and youth training but if you want to stay in the Premier League…
You did extremely well last season and with this summer’s developments I really don’t see how you will even be threatened with relegation (unless things go dramatically wrong in some aspect of the club’s management). You should have a smooth and enjoyable season, causing a few upsets.
We will probably be fighting for survival until the very end again; the difference being that the ‘very end’ of next season seems to be much harder (with PAOK at home, AEK away and Atromitos at home!).
In other news, I am hoping that Stevenage do sneak into the play-offs again - although I don’t know what to think of Teddy Seringham’s appointment! Plenty of local derbies this season with Barnet, Luton and Cambridge all in League 2. Should be interesting!
Certainly feels like it Yannis which is kind of strange for a Palace fan to feel so positive about the season ahead. The club has never been in such a good position and could actually challenge for a European position. Palace have only been in Europe once in 1995 when we went out at the 1st round. The only other time when we should have received a place in Europe was the time Palace finished third in the old Division One in 1991. This was when English clubs were just coming out of a European ban imposed following the Heysel disaster. Liverpool were supposed to have an extra 5 year ban for their fans behaviour that evening but this was over turned that year at the expense of Palace when Liverpool took the second European spot.
Anyway I’m getting seriously ahead of myself talking about a chance of Europe. Our first target is still achieving 40 points and safety but as a set of fans we are looking up rather than the fear of a relegation dog fight . This being Palace though you can be sure that something will go wrong.
Saying that, we were lucky yesterday as Norwich had a good goal disallowed to make it 2-2. These things have a tendency to even themselves up over the season and am sure i’ll be moaning about the ref very soon.

I am driving to Ipswich after work. Stevenage had a very poor opening game against Notts County (I wasn’t there, but I read so), however I want to combine seeing them with visiting a new, Championship, ground. I hope they don’t get demolished tonight! That will probably be a very long and indifferent season for Stevenage.
I really need to come down and see you guys playing, one day…

A tight game in the top of the table clash but a 90th minute goal for city kept their 100% winning record alive. Palace go from 2nd to 4th in the table.
Love days like these, especially as all my brother-in-laws are Chelsea glory hunters.
